Strengthening Your ‘Foundations’

Strengthening Your ‘Foundations’

As the classic kids’ church song says, “The wise man built his house upon the Rock, and the rains came tumbling down. The rains came down and the floods went up … But the house on the Rock stood firm.” And as we think about our new series, it only makes sense that this would be the type of song that comes to mind when we think of our title: Foundations. For without the proper structure in place for our Christian life, our walk with Jesus Christ becomes one of unsteady confidence and patchy guesswork.

It does not have to be this way.

In fact, it is not supposed to be.

It is for this reason that what we will be covering in our new series is so important. For as Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4:14, we need Foundations, “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.”

We must build up to grow up, and anything less than solid Foundations is detrimental. Knowing what you believe and why is vital in understanding the God that loved us so much that He sent His only son to die on the cross for each and every one of us. The Gospel plus anything else is heresy.

When we come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, one thing becomes very evident: God is a god of order, not chaos. For all the aspects of God and the Christian life that we come to discover the longer we walk with our Savior, nothing about Him, or what we are to do to follow Him, actually changes. These things only become clearer. However, as we will come to find out together, there are some indisputable starting points we can all benefit from, and they are as follows:

The Bible, God, Trinity, Jesus, sin + atonement, regeneration + Holy Spirit, humanity, Heaven, and the Church itself.

And over the span of this series, we will have a chance to cover all these topics. Join us every Sunday between here and March 3 at either our 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. service as we strengthen our Foundations and check out some additional resources below (as there are many, many more out there and available):
