What We Believe
Statement of Faith
We are a non-denominational New Testament Church. What roots we have would be from the “Restoration” movement in the 1800’s. No book but the Bible, not the only Christians, but Christians only. We believe that the changing culture does not effect what the scripture says about moral issues.
We believe in God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit and that they are distinct personalities with distinct roles, but one God; and that one God is the Creator of the universe.
JESUS
We believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a cross, and was raised from the grave. He will return as our victorious Lord.
SALVATION
We believe our salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and is not based on our goodness. It is a gift of God. Our good works and sacrifice are in response to HIS love and sacrifice on the cross.
BAPTISM
We believe faith in Jesus requires repentance, confession of that faith before witnesses, and obedience to His Word. Baptism by immersion demonstrates that faith and obedience while it depicts our union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
HOLY SPIRIT
We believe everyone who accepts Christ has the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit who acts as a Comforter, Guide, and Advocate.
CHURCH
We believe the church, as the body of Christ, is the extension of Jesus Christ’s character, attitude, behavior, and mission in our world today.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
We believe God gives gifts to both men and women through the Holy Spirit for the benefit of the church’s ministry.
PRAYER AND COMMUNION
We believe that humility in prayer is the foundation for all we do and that celebrating communion together weekly is beneficial for all Christians.
SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is an inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition for conception through natural death. We are therefore called to value all human life.
MARRIAGE
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4). We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
FINAL AUTHORITY FOR MATTERS OF BELIEF AND CONDUCT
The Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Harvest Christian Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Pastor and Elders are Harvest Christian Church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
